3 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Jan 11 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police on Saturday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kupwara & Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession. In Kupwara, a police party of Police Post Bazaar during routine checking at Galizoo, intercepted 02 suspicious persons. They have been identified as Mohd Ashraf Khan son of Ghulam Ali Khan, resident of Arampora Halmatpora and Irshad Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ahad Dar resident of Halmatpora. During their personnel search, 10 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). In Sopore, a police team led by SHO Police Station Tarzoo, at a checkpoint established at Tarzoo, intercepted an individual carrying a nylon bag. He has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohiudin Sheikh resident of Shorgari Mohalla Tarzoo. During the search, the police party recovered 7.270 kilograms of contraband cannabis powder-like substance from his possession, police said. All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said. “We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
